UnrealScript - An Introduction and Application

In this DVD Rusty Sempsrott dives into the world of UnrealScript. He starts off with the very basics by going over getting set-up, variables, arrays, enumeration, structures, if statements, case statements, loops, functions, and classes. Once the basics are covered in detail, Rusty then demonstrates some practical uses of UnrealScript like creating custom Kismet functionality and creating a custom weapon class. You’ll be able to create very different and unique results with only a small amount of new code to write, leaving you with more time to design and implement your ideas.

If you have never used UnrealScript you should be able to follow along and understand. Even if you are experienced using UnrealScript, you should pick up useful information throughout the DVD.

A question regarding C++ and being available to see the code. Is it possible to follow the lessons with ConText also? Is it necessary to use C++ only for this matter?

this needs to be continued. maybe something to cover the scripting part when making a basic game from scratch? it would be a faster way to go over advanced programming with HUD, scaleform, user input, pawns, AI, etc... and i'll pay any number u write down for a series like that. would be even better if u could cover a bit about networking.

I agree with the comments below, this is a good introduction, however I would like more in the series, following on from seenooh's comment I would be very interested in the 4 ideas that are mentioned, however I would say that 2- Character movements, Custom Game Types and Custom Vehicles & 3- AI programming in UDK, some interesting sample behaviours, tips and tricks. would be more useful to most people that a UI system, network would be awesome but would probably be for experienced people.

Wow do we get access to that Temple Ruins (Angkor Wat?) level if we buy the DVD?

Eat3d should make a tutorial DVD around modeling and texturing that level! I would be 3 of them : )

One of the most impressive Unreal environments I have ever seen!

For those who have viewed this video, can you please comment on what level of programming background knowledge one should have to effectively approach this training?

The instructor did a nice job and this is really good for a beginner but VERY light on real world examples. I wasn't disappointed but I was hoping for something I couldn't find on youtube.

Yes, the instructor uses Visual Studio with nFringe. I believe both are free for personal use.

I hope you guys consider building upon this DVD in a manner similar to this:

1- DVD about advanced UI in UDK (scaleform) with implementing a simple Inventory system.
2- Character movements, Custom Game Types and Custom Vehicles.
3- AI programming in UDK, some interesting sample behaviours, tips and tricks.
4- Networking in UDK (Introduction and Application)

I personally learned all the above (except for networking) to an intermediate level. The reason why I'm suggesting this is because that's what really took alot of time to understand how things are related, what useful triggers are already implemented, what variables, etc... In a numerous scenarios, I wrote stuff from scratch and later found that they are already implemented! So a DVD addressing each topic from the above with pointers and useful tips will be a great resource for beginners.

Perhaps you could conclude the series by making a DVD about a complete small game for iOS.

I'll buy this DVD to support you guys. Keep it up.
