Animating a Chain in 3ds Max

It keeps "melting" for me at some parts. First it was the absence of the Welder modifier, and after I applied it everything is ok except that some vertexes of the chain stucks at its place while the other parts fall correctly. I suspect that it could be some intersecting faces or something wrong with the skin wrap, I don't know..
What I want to do with this is to collide the chain with itself to create an effect like when you drop down a chain and it falls on the floor collapsing. Obviously in this case there are much more bug possibilities..

Any tips how to solve this? Or how to create this effect in a more efficient way perhaps?

If you want to have it doing full dynamics, you should do it with a rigid body engine, with joints between the links. MassFX or Thinking Particles can do that.
