hi,
i was watching the short preview of this tutorial nd its very persuading...i tot i mite just purchase this but since i only knw how to use maya, some of the process in this tutorial seems a lil complicated to follow though. so, is it really possible to exectue the same or atleast a similar result with maya, i noticed that the pelt UV tool and render to texture tool is either not present in maya or i havnt explored enuf.. but it would be great to knw if its possible and an alternative for these tools would be great too... well thanks for this amazing tutorial.

There are many people who have successfully been able to go through this video using Maya and other 3d apps. Metalliandy even uses Blender and was able to do it no problem.
There are some things that are different though and it will depend on how much you know maya in order to translate.

It would be good to know how to export out normal maps from a high res mesh. Some modeling tools may be called different things and it could be frustrating if you wanted to follow along perfectly.

I would hesitate to recommend this for a pure beginner in maya and 3d to be able to follow along perfectly, but if you have some maya friends to ask questions (you could as them here as well) it would help.

I hope this helps angrybr!

Hey Guys,

@angrybr
If you are reasonably familiar with Maya, i don't think you will have too much of a problem following this tutorial as generally all 3d programs tend to have all the same tools with different names.
The functionality is the same its only the names that differ.
As Riki said, i use Blender and i have not found a tutorial that i couldn't finish (maybe with just a little head scratching Sticking out tongue).

For unwrapping the Pelting tool free script for Maya maybe be some help, though i believe that Maya 2009 already has this functionality build in Smiling

Hope that help and good luck! Laughing out loud
