Hi there,

I tried opening the max files for this project and it seems you have a newer version of max than I do. I'm using 3ds max 2008 and I can't open your files. Any chance you could put up an obj version or something I can import and use? I'd really appreciate it.

Hey blanktarget,

Im sure you will be pleased to know that there is already some in the 3dsmax Files folder. Laughing out loud
There should be 2 .max files (hp+lp), 2.Obj (hp+lp) and an .ASE of the lp.

Hope that helps Laughing out loud

Haha, so I see! That's what I get for just checking in max and not looking in the actual folder.

I hope the exported files work out for you, the original max files were saved with 3dsmax 2009.

Hi,

I am also unsing 3DSMax 2008 and have had to import the .OBJ files. One thing i have noticed is that they don't hold the smoothing group information. Is there a way of doing this that I am missing?

Thanks

It is possible I think. I don't have max 2008 but I did import it into max 2010 successfully with smoothing groups. Try messing with the OBJ import settings and see if there are any options to preserve them on import.

Hi Riki,

Thanks for the reply. I had a play with the settings with no luck.

I have tried the "Obj smooth groups" checked and unchecked, played with the "Smooth Group" figure but still have no success.

Hi westmeadow, the only thing I can thought of is that the smoothing group info did not export together with the mesh in .OBJ.

You may reassign the smoothing group in 3ds Max again.
