Questions on 3ds Max .mtl
Hi guys,
I created a material (like a shiny metal material) in 3ds Max and applied to the mesh. I exported the material in .mtl file but when I re-imported the mesh and .mtl file, the .mtl file is not there. What has gone wrong?
Hi Riki, this is what I currently figured out and tested in Max.
1) e.g. I applied red color to diffuse color in the material (default: Blinn) with a high specular value. I export the model in .obj with saving material option. But when I import the obj file in Max or Maya, the imported obj will only have the specular value but not together with the diffuse color.
2) In order to solve above issues, I go to the material library and save the material as .MAT. So when I import the obj in Max, I also import my .MAT file and re-link the material back onto the model. Downside of this solution, you can't do it in Maya.
The purpose of asking for help is I wanted to send my model to someone who don't use Max. So I need to export into obj which is widely accepted by most 3d software. But I wanted the person to import my model in their software and see my model applied with textures and materials instantly. So I heard .mtl file can do it, but I failed.
Now I need to do more research and see if I can find a better solution.
