Update01 -

 Hello Folks ^_^

I recently noticed that my portfolio is lacking game art to show-off. When the title under my name is 3d character artist for games (It's silly of me to notice that just now ;p ArtStation - Oliver Pabilona ). I have done quite a number of game characters and other game assets this past year. But I can't release it to the public since I'm under NDA. I need some new stuff to show to possible clients.

So with that I'm creating a set of Characters. Also It just so happen for quite a while now, I've been intching to give this old school JRPG a Current Gen facelift (at least the characters).

A little background to the game. The game was orignally released for Sega Saturn way back 1996. Then it was ported to the original playstation (which is the port/version that I played). Then later on ported to Windows, PSP, and IOS. The game is about the adventure of a young boy who hopes to become a great hero like his idol, the legendary Dragonmaster. With the assistence of his fortune-hunting friend, his cat-like companion, and his sweetheart. He travels to the nearby Dragon's Cave, to seek a precious gem. When the team reaches the cave's interior. They find an aged wise dragon who sees hidden potential in him. The aged Dragon beckons him to travel the world and become its protector as the new Dragonmaster. Now can you guess what Classic JRPG title this is? ;p

This is what I have done so far. Since this is a set of characters from the same realm/universe. I first blocked all of 5 character (actually only 2, just different costumes). The reason behind it is to check if all the character would give the same feel or vibe. If the art style, design direction and theme of details are applied or common in all 5 of them. Another thing is, the game is a Top-Down RPG with 2D Anime Cutscenes. So its a translation from 2D to 3D. With that I have to assure that the 3d version "Somehow" retain most of their personality and they will be "Somehow" be recognized that those characters are from that game. This is a big challenge but it will be fun. Goodluck to me ;p

Update02 - Lunar Silver Star Story - Alex Noa

Hello folks!

Here is my 3D interpretation of Alex Noa, one of the main character in "Lunar - Silver Star Story". Sculpted and Polypainted in ZBrush. It'll be converted to Gameart(lowpoly) later on, once I've completed all the characters.

About the style. Since the cut scenes of the game is in Anime. I think Square-Enix style character suited this the most.

I hope you like it folks. As always C&C are welcome :3

Next is Luna.

Your cloth and hair is fantastic! I hate not really giving a critique, but there is honestly really nothing that catches my eye as being "off" at first glance.
May I ask how you create your hair? Is it in zbrush? Is it all done by hand? Do you use a plugin?

The hair is done using Zbrush's Fibermesh. Yes all is done by hand.

It's really not that complicated. Probably tweeking the hair parameters is a bit difficult. Because even if you save your settings from a previous project. The result it gives is still different. I suspect it has something to do with the size(relative) of your mesh.

From there it's pretty easy.

I'm writing a tutorial, since a friend of mine is asking about it. I'll post it once i'm finished. Hopefully to finish it today since it's due a couple of weeks ago ;p

Again, thanks for your support Jeremy.

Your work looks Marvelous. It's a shame that I never played this game. I was so into RPG's at the time this game came out. I especially love the faces and the color pallet. This is indeed good work.

Cheers!

Update 06 - Lunar Silver Star Story - Luna - Resculpt

Hello folks!

Before continuing with the low poly conversion. I did a bit of editing/resculpting.

Looking back to the first head design(Sculpted months ago) and with the critique from the community I was able to notice the flaws, and it has a lot.

The first head design seems older and less feminine. Looking at them side by side with the first character(Alex Noa). It doesn't look cohesive. They are supposed to be at the same age, and Alex's love interest(that has bearing too in character design). So I did a bit of resculpting.

Fantastic Update!
Her lips and eyes  definitely seem more feminine.

I still can't get over your hair. Great stuff!

Yeowsa! I loved this game so much back in the day Smiling The characters are amazing. Seeing them in the poses really brings them to life. I think the only thing that my mind isn't quite "jiving" with is the Luna's face...To me it looks a little pushed in and pulled down. Maybe it's just the features themselves that my eye is having trouble with. Marvelous work all around though!

Hello Katie.

I welcome critiques. Can you be more elaborate with that, about the face.

Thanks
