hey there everyone!
long time no see! lol
well, i've been busy, but im back now!
and i've decided to do the ironman again! this time the mark 42!

im using 3Ds Max for the modeling but the rig is gonna be made in Maya!
i actually prefer Maya now, but i found it better "for me" to do the hard surface stuff on Max...
so here is where im at right now! worked at it for an hour or so yesterday....

what do you think? ..... ooo and.... should i use the timer again just like the old one??!?!

Looks good so far.  Are you going to go for a full figure?  If so, I suggest starting big and then refine and detail out the model.  Another thing, for character sculpting apart from hard surface, zbrush is a great too to use.

im back!

not been able to find time..... but here i am again, and to spice it up... just thought of playing with the colors to see it in a different perspective!

tweeked some of the pieces a bit.

well yes, i've used ZBrush before on my God Of War Model. some people use it for hard surface too, but i dont know if im gonna be comfortable using it that way :/
and since this is a mechanical character,  i usually make a large piece than cut it off into many pieces like i did with this one,
then refine it.
i know how the pro's advice to make the form first to get the proportions right... i find it hard to do on a character such as this one, as it is mechanical and made out of many pieces.
and yes, i'm planning on to make a full character and take it to Maya to rig it. :)

aaaand finally done with the modeling Phase!! or atleast thats whats i think so! lol

gonna start doing the UV's then textures, and rigging! boy its a long way to go!!

the whole model is 368 pieces.... thinking of either combining the whole model and making a single UV... or having it in sections... upper arm - forarm - hand .......

what do you guys think?!

Game res you would probably do Body, and Head separately. Not too sure about splitting the limbs into their own groups? I know that has been done before, but only with things like (A boss that exceeds 30 feet). Example: The Scarab in Halo.

hmmm.... so i'll be doing it in large sections then.
a whole arm would have its own UV space......... so i'll end up with 6 main tiles

great model it turned out just perfect, but do you mean to texture model with 6 texture tiles ?

i at first i thought id make a texture for each limb.... but through the process going on now on the UV's...... it seems like its gonna be more

the model is fully rigged and ready for animation and render, works great with Maya's Human Ik System.
