Dungeon Scene
![]()
First proper attempt at making a scene, I like the stairs, but there are a few errors in the walls which I am not that sure how to fix. Will give it another go tomorrow and if not will remake the wall, render quality is a low I know.
Not much to go on at the moment but if anyone has any advice would be greatly received thanks
Not sure exactly what the problem is. I can recommend a great resource that will help you out: amdrewklein.net, this is such a great resource to me for a lot of Maya fundamentals and more.
Nice setup so far!
Are you planning on making a high poly and then baking it to this? That would really bring out you're scene.
Btw, this is just me being nit picky but: When I think about dungeons I think of candles or some sort of burning light and an orangy scene because of the flames casting that kind of color.
Here is a quick paint over of what I mean:

I am not saying to make it with torches and stuff. I'm just trying to get you to explore you're options so that you can really bring out your scene. Lighting and atmosphere is really important.
I myself have never made a scene, just watched others do it, so I hope someone who has made a scene can crit even more. Hope this helps either way! Good luck and good job so far!
I have to agree that when I saw this image it didn't correlate with the word dungeon immediately to me. However the image does remind me of the room in Human Centipede (the spiral staircase being the main element). So by those standards I can definitely say that the word dungeon has more meaning to it than the more common "stereotypical" value that is associated with it. Being that this is so early on the lighting, texturing and "dressing" choices that can be made are vast.
@Arthaven the problem I'm having is this (bare in mind the textures are just quick ones I through together just to test a few brushes and things) see the image. Also I plan for this to be a very stereoytypical dungeon, like bricks, dark, erie and the like so ill try to keep you updated. Haven't been able to do that much this week because I am doing A Level exams...
@Joshflighter I would like to but I genuinely have no idea how to do it. Also the wall was something I through together so I could try out some lighting, and test some rendering I have no deleted it so I can create a more effective wall and lighting rig. I really like the idea of torches so I'm thinking of scrapping the window and sticking a torch there instead. The flame of it may be quite difficult though... (EDIT) I Just looked at your paint image and I was thinking that when you mentioned torches, so yeah I'll do my best to try and make it work, thanks for the great advice
Also I'm one of these people who can't move on until I've fixed a problem, and this problem with the base texture is really bugging me and I want to get it sorted...
In your viewport it looks like Max viewport resolution-problem, if you go into Customize/Preferences/Viewports/Configure Driver and mix around with that.
The rendering window texture problem looks like some kind of UV problem?
I knew I did it wrong...
(EDIT)I looked at my UV again an realised it was awful so i'm starting the UV rending process from scratch again so will be a couple of days before a new render is posted
Small update, added a texture to the base and played around with the lighting and this is kind of similar to what I want the final lighting to be.
@Joshflighter - don't worry I am gonna do the torches the wall is just there again because I wanted something to render with, so I brought it in from the original

Hey, I've started to texture and create bump maps etc, butttt when I apply my texture I keep getting a black line around the face, and I can't get rid of it, I'm using Mental Ray renderer so if anyone could give me any advice on how to get rid it would be appreciated because I can't carry on texturing until I've sorted this it's bugging me
