question about Unreal VFX
will the tutorial work for the Unreal Development Kit (I have the February 2010 version) or do i need the Unreal Tournament 3 Editor?
if i can use the UDK then how can i follow along with the tutorial?
I have a win 7 64 bit pc (not sure if this helps in answering my question)
thanks in advance
thanks for the info.......
cant wait to get my hands on the tutorials
you are welcome man.
the read me file says
[After you have Unreal Tournament 3 Installed for PC, Place the included
Unreal files in the Cooked PC Folder located in:
My Documents - My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Unpublished\CookedPC
If you try and open a Map and it won't load the art,
try loading the packages first, then load the maps.]
i dont have ut3 i have the udk...... so where do i put the files?
attached are 2 screenshots
I have my files as instructed: My Documents - My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Unpublished\CookedPC; that's correct.
the needed content browser files: C:\UDK\UDK-2010-02\UTGame\Content\Environments; for example "Eat3DIntroToUDK_Content.upk" is placed there.
Every single file within the "Tutorial Package" came with a specific instructions where to place them, just take your time....feel free to post any issues.
Regardless of UT3 Game install or not,the Package is 100% ready for use with UDK. I hope this help.
ok will do thanks
Thanks yanchiko93 for helping out!
Hey Riki, I am learning from you GURUS and trying to help others understand.
So I've gone through the steps creating the materials and assigning it to the correct mesh TWICE... and when I bring them into cascade I get the transition from the material(blue channel) working but there is no diffuse at all; it just shows up black. Did I miss a step? or is there a new flag for UDK 2010-08 that I haven't checked on that would fix this issue?
Thanks in advanced!
I'm cooking some levels and there's no apparent errors. But when I play the packaged game some of the lighting is different to how it looks when played in the editor. In particular some areas of the ground are totally black (as though from a solid shadow) which in the editor look fine. I am having problems trouble shooting this, as it takes a while to edit something in the scene, resave, recook, repackage and test. I wonder if this is a common problem?
Ah,oops. I have figured out my error. The material I was using is some MOSS preset, and it is actually transluecent. In the editor it is okay, but I guess it displays transparently in the PC mode ... the BSP can only be selected in translucent selection mode, even though it doesn't look translucent.
finally got unreal tournament 3 =)
When I open the editor it seems too laggy =(
why is that?
Update your drivers and see... that might fix the problem
Ended up defragging my C:// drive and deleted old stuff... Improved performance overall
Glad to hear your problem resolved.... keep your drivers up to date...... you get excellent performance improvement over all.

UT3 Package or UDK should work just fine. I don't think there is a specific steps to follow except follow what's on the video. When you have issues following the videos?;then you post the difficulties you experiencing. Basically that's about it.....at least I think so.
-Malakum- what have we become?
