I'm currently playing a bit with DX11's tessellation and new techniques like face mapping (PTex,etc...).

I would like to hear about what you ( the artists ) think about these new techniques.
Are you using them currently in your pipeline? What are the problems you're finding using them? What new fuctionally would you require to use them effectively?

thx

Since a lot of 3d softwear starting to allow the Ptex thing, i would say it really need in Xnormal.

I'm integrating Ptex and tessellation currently in xn4... for xn3 will be too messy without a complete rewrite of the core.

PTex is a bit difficult to implement in GPGPU and the 3d viewport ( I'm having tons of problems with that atm ).

This is just speculation but it's possible that Mental Ray 3.10 that will be shipped with Max 2013 will have support for PTEX.  If this is true it's a real game changer for me so to have this feature in xN 4 would be awesome!

Thanks for your hard work, jogshy.  Do you think you could hint as to when xN4 will be released?

Ptex is awesome. We're trying to implement it currently.

We plan to release the xn4 alpha 1 soon. We got a small delay because we had to completely rewrite the initial UI.

Sounds great!  Looking forward to it. Laughing out loud

BTW: I found out that MR 3.10 does have PTEX, but there is currently no GUI to use it in Max :/

I hope there are developers working on it.
