New Graphics Card?
I have a technical question of sorts. Recently, I have been having an issue with my PC, basically my screen flickers then goes black. The PC still runs as I can still hear it going and sounds is fine. I also notice I don’t hear my fan for my graphics card running anymore. So I figured it’s just time to buy a new card. The card I’m really looking to get is ATI FirePro V5800 1 GB DDR5. Right now Im currently using BFG GeForce 9800 GTX+ with AMD Phenom X4 9150e and 450w PSU. Primarly this PC is pretty much for working with 3ds Max, UDK, Maya, Unity, stuff like that as I hardly play games on my PC. Has anyone used the FirePro series? I’m just looking for some incite if the card is decent enough to buy or any other problems I might encounter as I’m going to install it myself.
The ATI FirePro V5800 I was looking at was about 350 USD. Like I said, I do use 3ds Max UDK Unity a lot. I really don’t play games on my PC too much so it’s really just for say my school and the Indy games me and a friend are working on. I mean what’s the difference between the firepro and say a consumer card?
The main differences between consumer cards and pro cards are that usually the consumer cards have less ram and the drivers are not as streamlined as pro cards, which have been streamlined and certified to work with applications such as max, maya etc.
The specifications are usually higher on consumer cards and they cost lots less. (I got my GTX 460 768mb for £128)
As JackyBoy said, you might want to consider upgrading you PSU too. 450w is really very little for the sort of stuff you are running and i dont think i would be happy unless i had at a 600-700w psu as its better to have a good amount of overhead.
Hope that helps!

How much is the card you are looking at getting? I would very much be inclined to upgrade the PSU too..
Unless you are doing a lot of Rendering I would go with a consumer card tbh. Especially as the help from forums you would be able to get on it is a lot greater as people would be familiar with them
