Modeling Internship
Hey guys, I got into 3d modeling a couple months ago and I love it. I want to eventually get some sort of internship once I improve more, but I'm 16 at the moment. Does someone know if it would be realistic if I could get an internship over the summer next year possibly?
Here's some stuff that I've done in the short time I've been doing this

The tribune tower is still a work in progress. And the insect was done in Sculptris as a quick sculpt to learn what it was all about, so far the only thing I've done in terms of sculpting.
So, are there internships available for 3d modeling and would I be able to get them at my age/skill level?
Really depends on where you are living right now. If there are studios in your area. I would sugest joining a modding community online and contribute to a project so you have your name on something people can play! Thats invaluable. But as ceribral pointed out, work hard and make a great portfolio. I would also like to stress one major thing (even more important than making a portfolio) and that is to keep posting to 3D sites like these. You NEED feedback, even if its critical. When you are learning something as complex as 3D, you need input from PROFESSIONALS. Feedback from other hobbyists (if they don't have professional grade work) is worthless IMO. You need to get feedback from people who actually WORK or have worked in this industry. If you only compare your work with your peers, your never going to get better.
Also, DO TUTORIALS! When you are just starting out, your shouldn't care about your own expression through your artwork or environments...you need to LEARN how others have solved masterpieces, before you can begin to create your own. I did this in college, and it landed me a job work with Andrew Jones and Todd Keller at Retro Studio. Shows that you are serious about learning, and not just playing around. When you invest time in long tutorials, you've already beat out 20% of your competition.
Lucky for you, sites like eat3D exist, didn't when I was in college (at least none that I new of that had DVDs online...maybe Gnomon Workshop, but thats it, even they were just starting out). So use it! And abuse it! CGtalk, Conceptart.org, 3Dtotal, eat3D, CG Art, CG Society, Polycount...signup login and post!
Just posted anonymously on accident :| Ignore or delete that mods if you see it.
Anyways, Thank you for taking the time to give me such a thorough response
So far, all of the feedback I've gotten has been from the simcity modding community at simtropolis.com. I wanted to wait until I got better at this whole thing to post here on eat3d, but it feels much more like a learning experience rather than a medium to display work now that you say that.
On tutorials, I've already been doing them. I got a membership to digitaltutors since that seemed like the best place to start out because of the variety for the price.
And for location, I live about 30 miles from chicago so there ought to be some studios nearby.
I will definitely be posting here in the near future to get some advice. Thank you again.
very awesome modeling design .so far ,it is important for you to need more practice .or you may go to 3d company so that get more practice opportunity.keep it up ...
Any suggestions on college courses to take for someone trying to break in the industry? to go along with learning techniques thru sites like this one...

Anything is possible if you want it bad enough
You just need to work has hard as possible and build a good network as well as a solid portfolio/demo reel.
