I see there hasn't been a review for a while here, so I thought I give one of the CryEngine 3 DVDs - the three of them.  Wow.  That should cover it.  I have bought a lot of DVDs from Eat 3D - all of them very well done and useful.  These are no exception.  Hélder Pinto covers all the major subjects within this vast engine, and the fact that he's actually building a level - everything gone through, really makes it so questions get answered automatically through his doing.  Explanations are clear and Pinto conveys a good feeling of wanting to help with tips and tricks from someone in the business.  These DVDs could not have been more timely, and smart getting out there with training material while CryEngine material (actual good material) is very hard to come by.

Thanks, and good job.

I have a question about the cryengine tools for 3ds max 2011.  I installed the cryengine tools properly and the cryengine tools show up in the toolbar when i open 3ds max 2011.  However, when i click on any of the options within the cryengine tools menu, nothing happens.  Any solutions to this problem?

Hi Rikki,

Is there any chance that  someone will do a animations dvd specifically geared towards crating a FPS game. For instance rigging a fps hand to for a weapon. From start to finish.I think that would be very useful too.

Thanks

Does anybody know how you would create collision for the interior of a building?  Every attempt i have made with my current project has either failed to render any collision on the building... or there is collision on the building as well as collision in places where there should not be collision... please help

I would say you do as normal - make a simplified collision mesh, name it correctly, and make sure the objects are linked the right way.  One thing: make sure that, if you're using 3DS, Reset XForm is applied and that all transformations are zeroed by looking at the numbers in scale, for instance.  Sometimes it doesn't happen, which can cause the proxies to either not be there, or to be of a different size.  I've had it happen, and it can be rather frustrating.

Just a heads up that the latest SDK has done away with the forest time of day file you're told to import.

Load forest, laod the time of day window, choose Export to file, save it somewhere handy, then import that into your project and you're good to go.

Not sure if the time of day hasnt been tweaked for forest in the latest build as well.
