Hello all,

This is my final entry.

Thank you guys for an awesome experience, comments and competition.

It was truly an amazing challenge for me, I have not only modeled, but also designed this bike.

Thanks for watching.

Ok, so here is the basic layout.  I am using Kawasaki Ninja as the base for my model. A lot more will change. but here are some building blocks :0)

Sweet! Every vehicle comp needs at least 1 bike in it Smiling Really looking forward to seeing the progress on this model!

Thanks Guys. I am thinking to implement a lot of sci-fi or/and conceptual parts/elements. Really to design it all... not sure how it will turnout.

I am not a concept artist so i really rely on 3d skills :)

lets see what i got.  :) when i get back from work, i will try to put together a Ref-sheet with inspirational images;)

Hey Guys,

so here is the ref-sheet that i have put together. The image size is huge (8K) i saved it with medium settings from PS. but still it is about 6mb

i am not embeding the link here, but if you want to glance at what i got for inspiration - feel free to click on the link here :

The sci-fi elements you are suggesting make me think of a Tron / Akira hybrid bike.

Great reference! Laughing out loud

Some of those designs looks insanely fast.

Ok, here i am,  back with a little work Smiling falling behind the schedule, sudden projects took place... so gonna have to manage time better..

but this is what i am up to. making the engine block,

Awesome, I've been making some engines as well Laughing out loud (I'll have them in my next update)

It is pretty complicated to come up with the engine lay out, I want to make it look really interesting, so i am grabbing bits and pieces from refs that i have. I dont think that it will fire up once i am done Smiling but sure will look cool Smiling

So on the pic above i added place holders for the turbos and i am currently wokring on figuring out the piping system.

-----

The screen below - My exhaust system. The empty areas by the engine block will get filled up with some wires and minor piping, i have not had a chacne to study this yet, but i saw a cool bike parked out side, so i think it's worth walking over Smiling

Welding the headers together was pretty interesting challange :0) just have to finish the fittings on the top and i am done with my pipe Smiling For the most END of the pipe, i was thiking abour positioning it in the center,  and making it look in this style :

I think i will finish the headers and will focus on the rims for a little bit. and move all around the model to re-block it real fast, I think i will continue to model Around the engine...

Hey Guys, so here i am with a TWIN TURBO setup for my V4 bike engine Smiling

I have relocated exaus to the back, so it works with turbos. i still have to make all of the piping from the intercooler to turbos and intake manifold. and i will then move to the bottom fo the engine and add missing elements for the transmition Smiling

here is where i am so far :

-stas

and here is the finished pipe-system with exhaust. only the bottom left, itnake manifold and transmition Smiling

edit: few more Valves as well for exhaust, so trubos get connected to somewhere.

Alright, slowly moving  on. Going into the frame development stage. I have finished a few monor elements of the engine, such as intake and exhaust manifolds. and created a base mesh for the frame. Still playing with the layout of the frame, but liking what i have so far, what do you guys think>?

it might not seem like much, but a lot of topology involved Smiling finished "welding" my frame, for the most part and getting in to the rear susepnsio and rear fork setup.

so i have spend a little more time on the frame and have developed the REAR part a little more, includingthe "thingy" that holds the back wheel. Sorry,. i am not a bike expert, so not sure what the proper name for the part is.

I have made some hi-res renders as well.

Just a little more work with the main frame and i can finaly start on the pretty part:) the body and rims Smiling

I want to make the paneling in the way so mechanical parts can be as much visible as possible.

thanks man Smiling honestly i can't wait to see more. I stuck on rim style. can't think of any that would suit this bad boy...

Alright, i am not going as fast as i would love to, but here is a bit of what i had time for today after work.

Modeled a body for my bike. Again, everything here is my pure own concept. i am referencing and engineering a lot of the bike on my own. this is really cool Smiling

i think for the body i will make a few minor ajustmetns in design and also some topology tweaks.

i modeled grill on the side by putting bunch donuts together and using warp with nurbs plane to give it shape. i think i will recycle the mesh in a few other places as well.

next to build: exhaust and rought in fron fork.

Really nice work!

Perhaps the body has some pinching in it from support lines. Also the tire rim has a really small center. Almost makes the inside look fragile?

-Jeremy-

Pinching in surface is yet for me to fix, i will be adding more details to it and will clean it up. But thanks for pointing out.

I am still to come up with rims design. right now this is place holder that makes it easier for me work on the body. Smiling

Fixed some topology on the panels., so there is no pinching. COuld not figure out the topo to keep the pieces as ONE, so i split them in panels. Added grill for the upper section. moving to the tail pipe now...

alright, updated the tail pipe and trunk with seat.

next : going to do a bit of rim design and shape up the rear gear and chain.

i honestly have no clue how i am going to go about the fron of the bike Smiling got some ideas. i hope the will work out Smiling

got the wheel desing somewhat down, check it out. Thew front will be a bit different. Still to do threads and gear with chain.

ok, that tire was some nightmare ))) could not get the topo and threads for a while.. i think i got it. or at least this is where it stays Smiling

Great model! I love the attention to detail!

I can't help but notice the pinching on the threads of the tire. Sticking out tongue

i know man, it sux. pinching  is killing me. i will try to figure out some ways of fixing it. bgut this is a thought of design that i had.

How are you creating the threads? May I suggest creating the detail, turbo smoothing it, collapsing it with out pinching and then using bend modifier on the entire thread?

This helped me when I made my motorcycle threads.

thanks. yeah, i had done that a numbero f times, i was thinking about the similar aproach. i will try it ou. thanks:))) great idea. and thanksfor reminding.

How did you create the grills? Looks great!

stascrash's picture
Posts: 70

you will find it funny, but there was nothingspecial Smiling like i made a donut (pTours) and reduced devisions to make the look squarish, i think i went with 6 sided. I stacked them togther to get the pattern i needed ()

then i went in  and placed it where it was suppose to go. I created a plane made out of NURBS (since it is flexible) and in maya made it a warp deformer, so plane was controling the mesh. i moded the plane till the grills were all in placed in killed history of the objects. I hope this helps Smiling

Interesting. Is there an equivalent to warp deformations so a plane can control a group of objects/mesh in max? The only thing I can think of is a scattering on a surface, but I've only used it for random things, not a grided pattern.

not sure if this will help you, here isa thread i found :

http://forums.cgsociety.org/archive/index.php/t-876228.html

There is a skin wrap modifier, i am not a max user, as far as high-end stuff goes. i can model but i use basic tools.

maya on the other hand is the main software i work.

here is a quick update. had been wokring on the gear and chain. chain needs a bit more tention, will do it later.

some partes are intersecting each other, and i plan to fix that later. when i get the bike done. still to do the break system and the front of the bike.

my pc is lagging on the model a lot alreay. it is almost a mil of poly unsmooth... pretty crazy.

looks like i will have to take this to work and make progress there.

here is what i got so far:

Great work!

ok, so i threw some quick materials, just to see what is going on , nothing special, no tweaking just default shaders...

i added a front to the bike, and moving to the fork.

the front wheel is just a place holder, since i had one modeled i thought i would recycle it temporary.

The bottom panels in the new piece will be replaced with a lights, i thought about setup similar to modern audi lights, may be an r8, something that has this feel to it:

here is a quick update render:
