High Poly Vehicle - Helder Pinto - Final

Decided to work a little bit on the back, I'm trying to reuse stuff in a smart way as much as possible.

I think next I'm going to work on those props on the sides, they're the last whitebox geometry remaining from the block out; so after that is just keep on adding surface detail.

so this just occurred to me. do you think the treads on the tire should be a bit thicker? i think it would help this look a bit more beefy. also, the middle bevel that youve got on each tread sort of reads as if you had a smoothing issue. i guess its just too much of a cluster of low-detail bevels that sort of makes it look like its a mistake, but pushing those out would probably help.

also (unrelated), i just got about 10 emails from this thread, all with different posts, yet there is only 1 new post. (11 cuz apparently jeremy just posted. Sticking out tongue )

@Helder, The images you see are thumbs Smiling

We just have to tweak the amount of compression that is used.

About the forum compression: The forum will only re-size your image if its larger than 865x750 in order for it to format correctly in the post. If you want to avoid the resizing by the forum you can simply resize it in photoshop and as long as its resolution is smaller than 865x750.

Cheers guys... didn't have a lot of time, but today I did one of the props on the sides, as you can see I still have a few to make.

noobie question here....how are you doing your renders? They look awesome!

Nope I'm not using any shader whatsoever, It's not a render either, it's just Max2012 realistic mode, which is awesome!

I'm using two lights, a blue light in the back and a white one in the front, I also tweaked the shadow and the SSAO a bit.

Hey guys, I just wanted to pop in and say that we made a change on the way images are resized and the quality should be much better. You will have to delete your local cache to see the difference. Let me know!

Great work HP. Could we get a character (or Biped) scale representation for this bad boy?

Thank you VERY much guys!

So the modeling of the vehicle itself is finnaly done, I only need to make a few adjustments here and there and render it.
I was thinking, one of the problems with this model is that the scale is not very readable, so you must put a human next to it, which was somethign I wanted to avoid, so I'm thinking about putting a few ammo crates and / weapons next to the door or something; just something to hint the player how big this mofo actually is (One of those tires is the size of a human, like you can see from the concept)

(Here's my concept btw, as a reminder)

A couple more viewport shots before i render it

Hey Helder, excellent work. Definitely killed the concept and yours is one of my fave entries. Everything looks fitted.
Do you plan on making a pedestal for it?
The reason I ask is that you may be able to sell the scale with a road pedestal that has maybe some simple rocks or trees on the side. Using an ammo crate may blend too much with the model (hard surface - hard surface) if that makes sense.
Good stuff man.

Thanks guys.

jpz, I just read your post, the road pedestral is actually a good idea, I was thinking about making just a rocky terrain but the road idea is much much better, I'll get into that tomorrow, thanks man!!

i dont need to tell you how badass this look, since its a given. But i thought id pay my respects! Eye-wink

I love how the entire vehicle looks so solid, nothing draws my attention. Then my eyes just sink into a pool of details when i start analizing the surfaces.  Really awesome piece man!

tires look better. Laughing out loud i like the damage youve added to the front, but it seems a bit randomly placed.

Raul, thanks a bunch man!

Oniram, yeah the idea was to make it slightly random with indentations and a few bullet holes, I may have gotten a bit carried away tho, it looks a bit too much on the high poly, but I'm certain it would look less abrupt on a normal map.

I disagree with Oniram. I think it's the perfect amount of usage damage on the front end. Looks like they may have clipped a few barricades or relatively light objects here and there.

Love the vehicle. But presentation wise, i think it would be better if it were floating in mid air. but thats just my opinion.

Awesome work HP. As you stated earlier you were not using any viewport shaders, but rather realistic mode and lights. Are you happening to use omni lights, and what sort of material are you using? I am assuming a standard blinn material with color and specular altered.

Thanks

Just a quick reminder about the process for your final submission Smiling

Please ensure that your final submission has everything that is required for entry, edited into your first post (beauty shot's and turntables etc.)

  • You must provide an unsmoothed wireframe beauty shot of the finished model, from multiple angles.
  • You must submit at least 1 final beauty shot that is at least 1280x720.
  • You must submit at least 1 turnaround movie of the vehicle created in any application of your choice.
  • Post your final image on the first post in your thread using our "File Attachments" system.
  • Upload your video turnaround to a popular video sharing site (Youtube, Vimeo, etc) and post the link/embed in the first post of your thread in the " Video Link" field.

Also please make sure that you edit the title of your thread to have - Final at the end.

e.g. High Poly Vehicle - metalliandy - Final

Thanks and good luck! Smiling
