High Poly Vehicle-Dudeman95-Final
Blender users ftw. lol. I geuss you solved the solution with the curves/paths. Usually conveyers on this types of machines are just long pieces of rubber, but this works to. I wish I was a good as you.
man, im loving the details. been away for a while but after coming back and looking at the progress, dayuumm!! its gonna look massive as hell!
"All your Base are belong to us"
Thanks for all the positive comments everyone!
I'm sorry I've been inactive for the past 2 days, but I've been crazy busy with hip hop rehearsal for a 3 day show that are actually the last 3 days of the contest so just my luck
. I have also been busy with going to a 3 day Jesus Culture conference up in Chicago so it has been really hectic lately.
I have a small update for you guys, but hey at least it's something.
Hope you all enjoy!
Didn't expect such detail
great work, hope you finish on time, good luck
Very cool, man!
I started working more on the tracks today and I have a question for any engineer experts out there. I'm trying to fill in the extra space between the tracks and the metal portion and I also don't understand how the tracks/treads are suppose to move on the metal body because there aren't any visible gears to keep the tracks rotating like on a tank. Can anyone help me with this?
Nice progress :)

Just a quick reminder about the process for your final submission
Please ensure that your final submission has everything that is required for entry, edited into your first post (beauty shot's and turntables etc.)
- You must provide an unsmoothed wireframe beauty shot of the finished model, from multiple angles.
- You must submit at least 1 final beauty shot that is at least 1280x720.
- You must submit at least 1 turnaround movie of the vehicle created in any application of your choice.
- Post your final image on the first post in your thread using our "File Attachments" system.
- Upload your video turnaround to a popular video sharing site (Youtube, Vimeo, etc) and post the link/embed in the first post of your thread in the " Video Link" field.
Also please make sure that you edit the title of your thread to have - Final at the end.
e.g. High Poly Vehicle - metalliandy - Final
Thanks and good luck!
Hey guys I have a quick question. Blender can't render all the tracks without crashing so if I rendered in Zbrush would that help at all? Please get back to me with your suggestions asap.
That would most likely work just fine. Its important to keep in mind however, that all open edge geometry needs to have a supporting loop added right at the open face(s). This is because Zbrush likes to shrink these areas.
Great Progress btw! Its really looking cool!

I finished the base structure. Now all I have left are the two towers and the rope/cable that connects them. It's 4 am here and I got church so I will try and get it done asap so I can do a turntable. Wish me luck!
Good luck dude. Really hope you get this finished as you have done an incredible amount of work
Rendering the turntable now
This is just too awesome not to finish.
Half way through the turntable and the deadline has ended. Looks like I didnt make it in time but I will still post the beauty render and all of that good stuff after the turntable
Well the turn table is still rendering. I started rendering at 10:50 pm and it is now 1:10 am
Had to re render the turn table because I forgot to change the file type and it was on jpeg so I got 110 frames each it's own render lol. I got 10 more frames on the new one so I will upload soon.
U can join sequences into a video file easily with quicktime pro, aftereffects or premiere.
Uploading to YouTube
Hey guys I got all my stuff rendered out. My internet is being sucktastic atm so it is taking a while to upload the renders. I'm actually posting this message from my iPhone lol
Posted! Sorry I didn't get everything rendered in time guys. I got the model to a finished looking state before the deadline, but I didn't have enough time to do all the rest of the minor details like walkways and such. It took forever to render this beast out and it is at about 12.5 million polygons.
I had fun doing this challenge and I thank Eat3D for hosting such an amazing contest. I believed it helped me grow as an artist and I must say that this is my best hard surface work yet.
I'm actually glad I took a break from my dino to do this contest because I just looked at him again last night and I feel like I can take him to the next level. It's sort of a renewed mind type thing where at first I had sculpting block, but since I took a break from him for about a month I have so much more I want to do with him.
Once again thanks Eat3D and thanks metalliandy for being such an awesome admin on this forum.
2 accounts? too bad you didn't make it on time, it was a real monster of a project.
grtz
Yeah I know. This wasn't really a vehicle, but more like a city on wheels lol. The sucky part about the whole thing is that I got the modeling before the deadline, but the turntable took longer than I thought. A whole 4 hours to render 110 frames. Ah well I get to use it for my portfolio.
It turned out great, and is portfolio worthy
The Krupp Bagger 288 and other excavators are located near Koln, Germany. If you go to googlemaps and look for Bergheim near Koln, you will see the big mining areas. Here are a few pictures I took! I would have loved to have gotten closer, but the whole area was fenced off. Luckily, there was a hill that we could look down from and see this! They are all over the place. I am planning to go back on a clear day and get some good shots.

Yeah it looks a lot better with the looser bevels! This is going to look awesome!
