Challenge #4 - High-Poly Vehicle Modeling
Hey Admins,
I would like to ask (or perhaps suggest) if I may, if it would be possible to change the submission process to a "Submission thread".
This is just so that people can look at a single thread for all the entries instead of navigating to several links. Thoughts?
Thanks.
@jpz
I think a good way to perform this would be common thread with competitors submitted updates (real progress updates) without right to comment, but with links to personal competitor thread.
As a variant.
Hey guys,
Everything will be complied into a single post automatically once all the submissions are received
Ah I see. Nice.
Under the Budget section there is this requirement:
"You must provide an unsmoothed wireframe beauty shot of the finished model, from multiple angles."
I would just like clarification on what this is. In my mind it is clay AO with a wireframe overlay but Turbosmooth has been turned off. If this is the case do we also turn off all smoothing groups as well?
-Jason
Do we have to have our vehicles textured or can they be just a plain old default color?
@mrsdoublefire,
Yes that is correct
It just means a render with turbosmooth turned off
@Dudeman95,
You dont have to texture the model, but can add basic block colours if you like
Thanks Andy. On a side note, this competition is fierce. I'm glad I'm on the competitor side and not the judging side. My heart goes out to all of the judges on the panel. You have a tough one on your hands.
@mrsdoublefire - That we do, but all of you have made it well worth it! So many great entries! It will be tough but very enjoyable to look through all the great work.
-Jeremy-
Yea, its going to be tough. Wouldn't be fun if it was easy
Hey guys!
Not long to go now!
Please ensure that your final submission has everything that is required for entry, edited into your first post (beauty shot's and turntables etc.)
- You must provide an unsmoothed wireframe beauty shot of the finished model, from multiple angles.
- You must submit at least 1 final beauty shot that is at least 1280x720.
- You must submit at least 1 turnaround movie of the vehicle created in any application of your choice.
- Post your final image on the first post in your thread using our "File Attachments" system.
- Upload your video turnaround to a popular video sharing site (Youtube, Vimeo, etc) and post the link/embed in the first post of your thread in the " Video Link" field.
Also please make sure that you edit the title of your thread to have - Final at the end.
e.g. High Poly Vehicle - metalliandy - Final
Thanks and good luck!
So, the deadline is 11:59 pm August 14th but what time zone are we talking about here? On the first post it tells me the current time which matches with my computer but it says MST and I am currently on Pacific time. Arizona doesn't participate in Daylight Savings Time so we are constant all year. In the winter we are Mountain and in the Summer we are Pacific. I'm planning on submitting before that but just so everybody knows what is up.
Thanks
The deadline is in 11:59 CDT, which is -5hrs GMT/UTC
Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but what is CDT?
@Dudeman95,
Hey I have one more question. Will we be judged on only our beauty pics and turntable or will we be judged on all of our work presented in our threads?
turntable res?
@Dudeman95,
You will be judged on everything you submit for the final entry.
So that would be unsmoothed wireframe from multiple angles (1280x720), 1 final beauty shot (1280x720) and 1 turnaround movie (1280x720)
@Goten-trunk,
720p please. (1280x720)
Not sure if anyone asked, is it alright to turntable unsmoothed wireframe or it has to be a smoothed beautytable?
It's just.. my render farmz are on vacation! =)
I have a couple more questions as well. Is it alright if we just do one turn table animation and we can just keep duplicating it in a video editing software to make the turntable longer? Also if we are in mid render of something and the contest just gets over will we just be given more time to let our turntables or images render? I don't think this will be allowed, but I just thought I would ask.
For turntables is a high-res viewport animation or playblast allowed?
because rendering a turntable in such high-res might take alot of time
Thanks...
Just do whatever you can guys
Something like ZBrush might be good for those who are having problems with time. Remember that you don't need to have 24+fps. Something like 15fps should do fine, which could reduce the time needed of a 4 second turntable by a third.
22 hours to go people. Make it happen!
still trying haha
only 35 frames left
lol Goten! Hope it turned out great
First turntable I did I forgot I had turned off the symmetry modifier on one of the landing gears, lol.
i was just wondering. how soon the results of the competition will be anounced ?
@stascrash,
There are no guarantees, but we usually try and get everything announced within a 2 week time period
Thanks, this is what i thought. wanted to make sure. Taking a short vacation now,and would not want to miss out :)
Thanks Metalliandy!
I just remembered how much I hate rendering
The time deadline says 11:59 PM Aug 14th, but it's showing the current time as 17:25pm... How is that possible? If you are using a 24 hour time wouldn't 11:59 PM be 23:59? And if you meant to say 11:59 AM I already missed the deadline? The PM is very ambiguous here.
I thought I had a few more hours to work on it, did I already miss it?
@tehfailsafe,
I'm sorry you are finding the PM to be ambiguous, we didn't think it would be an issue because people switch between 24/12 hr clocks so regularly.
Just so we are all clear, the deadline is 11:59PM/23.59 CDT so you still have just over 6hrs before the deadline
Gotcha, that's what I thought from the PM, but then the current time clock was using 24 hours so I wasn't sure. Switching is easy, but in the same sentence in the rules it's hard to tell which one is correct, the 12 hour deadline or the 24 hour current time.
Thanks!
Hmmm, I can't for the life of me work out how to edit my first post, or embed the video
To edit the post you just need to click the edit button that is directly about the Home » Forums » Artwork » Thread Name.
To embed a video, just scroll down to under the Attach Image section and you will see a Video Link: option. Paste your video url there
I was getting in trouble with it too haha
Worked perfectly!
Thanks Andy!
Good luck everyone!
Thanks for all the hard work everyone!
Now for the judging
Great job everyone, this contest has surpassed our expectations again!
If everyone could visit this link and make sure you see your final qualifying entry that would help us out a lot:
http://eat3d.com/contests/highpoly_vehicle/results
This is the link that the judges will use to cast their vote. Thanks again!
Sorry but I didn't see my entry yet .Could you tell if there is a problem with it ?
@RABITAGORE,
There was a space after the end of the thread title that was interfering with the automated collection of entries. Everything is fixed now
Nice, thanks a lot metalliandy !
No problem
When can we expect the winners to be announced?
@virgil,
There are no guarantees, but we usually try and get everything announced within 2 weeks or so
The votes have been counted and the winner announced!
Thanks for all the hard work everyone
