Are we allowed work from concept art? Or does it have to be totally original?

The prize is the software that is being offered thanks to Cebas, OctaneRenderer, and Crazybump. The "Money value" displayed next to it, is the worth of each prize package.

You can use whatever techniques you would normally use to make an awesome HP model.

You might have some issues with floaters though, as they may show up on the final render. If you can get away with it then yea, go for it Smiling

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

For a bake they would be fine, but for beauty shots they look kinda weird sometimes.

Ok, well hopefully they'll work alright for me, thanks for quick reply!

Cone on guys -  Give Metalliandy a break or are some of you joking! These guys have responded to our requests for an official comp so do them the courtesy of reading the whole thread - it is *really* clear....

*Model any vehicle you want

*Use whatever software you want

*Your challenge is to create a High Poly Vehicle that is similar to the one created in the The Dozer

I would take from that - something industrial/construction based.

"You must provide an unsmoothed wireframe beauty shot of the finished model, from multiple angles."

So this means that we cannot use smoothing groups and or turbosmooth type tools?

The unsmoothed is for the wireframe shot.

You can still use turbosmooth (or any CC Subd variant or similar) but we require a unsmoothed wire frame of the final mesh (the subdivision cage) Smiling

What is "no kit bashing" explain please what this means. What can't i do?

metalliandy's picture
Posts: 3188

Kit bashing is where you have a library of pre made parts that can be reused over and over. Its the same reusing old assets/base meshes really.

Hope that helps!

hey everyone) i have a question. sorry if this was asked before. but can i use a non retopoligized HP mesh from a zbrush as a result or do i have to do an organized polyflow by retopologizing? thanks)

metalliandy's picture

ZBrush is fine Smiling

You can use which ever techniques or programs that you would normally use when creating a HP mesh. Smiling

Can I make a vehicle out of mashed potato's and scan it into my computer and have it calculate the high poly model for me?

@spbrunson,

Yea, that is fine Smiling

@JBaird,

I'm sorry. The rules state unlimited polygons, not unlimited polyunsaturated fat Sad

Ok I dont want to be beating a dead dog but as far as modeling the vehicle . . does it have to be completely mechanical or can it be a bio-mechanical/robitic hybrid?

IE:.. A cybernetic organism with the cockpit located in the brain cavity? Or a mecha controlled by interfacing on an organic level ( like the 40K dreadnuaght ) ?

Like I said I dont want to pose any stupid questions, I just want to make sure that if I create a cybornetic vehicle that shoots out flesheating creatured piloted by some dude siting where the skull should be at. Or if I make a gundam'esk mecha etc. That it wouldnt be a viod entry.
