Close enough...

On the screens some of the textures are smaller than they are on the sheets because I was sort of in a rush and didn't check if the compression settings all matched, but oh well.

I hope i have everything that's necessary and all is in the right dimensions.

Was a fun challenge, thanks Eat3D and everyone participating. Smiling

Best Regards

Hi, new here.

Will do some asian door in one of those walls with the fancy roof on top. like a gate of sorts.

Somewhat busy at the moment, but will try to get at least a blockout done. Will get started properly next week.

cheers

Update! yay.

turntable of the blockout - still need to figure out the roof of the main gate and all the things that sit underneath. shapes and angles and stuff of everything will most likely still change.

depending on how many tris i'll have after the main structures are done i would like to add some bonsai to the planter and maybe add another planter with possibly ivy growing up the wall. we'll see.

should have several types of stone, plaster, ceramic, fabric/paper, wood and different metals in the final scene. and maybe foliage.

i hope it gives an idea of what i have in mind for the final thingie.

next update with hopefully some highpoly work possibly monday. maybe. Smiling

wanted to get more done today, but oh well. will try to do all the metal work for the doors tomorrow. and maybe the wood.

it's still kinda messy, but considering that it won't be all that big in the final thingie it should be okay.

mh! the zbrush default background color is pretty close to this forums BG color.

metal still needs quite a bit of work tomorrow and some more ornate details need to be added to balance the whole thing with the knocker. the door will hopefully get a 1024x2048 to at least partially keep some of the details.

today's update!

ha, no im kidding. light shafts... Laughing out loud

started on some material shaders which are not yet ready to be seen Sticking out tongue

and mocked up a quick lowpoly to see how much of the detail would get lost.

that's a 1024² diffuse and a 512² normals, i kid you not. there are some errors but only due to the messy lowpoly and it's smoothing.

i'm really happy with the amount of detail that comes out of the bake and i might have to up the scale of the scene to even use half of the allowed texture space - we'll see how much 10k tris permits Smiling

so... tomorrow either a proper lowpoly and clean bake and/or some other part. still need to mock up the big roof and i'm not sure why, but being keen on something feels different. :|

enough chit-chat! sleepy time.

nice job so far Smiling

I think some of the sculpted details on the door could be a little sharper, which would help see the rivets and wood grain more.

At the moment, the door knocker is 100-150% sharper looking than the other metal, which is causing the focus of the piece to be diluted a little.

Im loving it though man!

Cant wait to see what's next Smiling

thanks for all the comments Laughing out loud very much agree with the metal on some parts still being too soft and i'm likely to work on it more if i can't get it fixed early on in the texturing stage.

sorry for being so lazy lately, but... well. no excuse - just lazy Smiling

slowly chipped away at the wall piece and still not really happy with it.

abandoned the idea to use a tiling wall texture with unique endpieces and will just use one endpiece. biggest problem was the fact that the wall is made of two layers of stone that are offset from each other - getting that to work in the damaged version when more of the underlying bricks show through could have become a major hassle. and because of that i ditched the idea. :P plan on doing a damaged version and blend between the two via vertex color so it won't be too obvious that its the same mesh.

it's still a WIP sculpt but i wanted to post an update because i haven't in a while.

also rebaked the door to a proper lowpoly which came out far better. might add a shot of it in the next post.

more ... soon! maybe. :|

took a lot longer to update than i would've liked, but im determined to finish the modeling in the next 2 or 3 days and start texturing to *fingers crossed* finish on time. Laughing out loud

next up is the annoying roof.
