First entry, have got a bit of spare time for this.  Just got to finish a personal project or two and then will be all over this competition.  Enjoyed looking at all the old and damaged threads, so will jump into this one.  Have been coming up with a few concepts for this i don't want to give my self something huge to do that will not be completed in time.  So i am thinking of having some objects and a building that will tell a story of what goes on and why a person would live there.

So, i have narrowed it to one concept that i will upload tonight/tomorrow.  The materials in use at the moment is wood, metal, leather, plastic, fabric, glass and cardboard! A nice range of materials to test my abilities.  this will also be my first project in using UDK, i have used marmoset before, but would really like to learn UDK as it is a valuable tool to understand and has some great features.  If time is an issue i will produce it in marmoset, but i am confident that i will get it in to UDK!

I will be mainly using maya and photoshop for this project as these are the packages i am most comfortable with, zbrush is also something new to me, i have opened it up and played with it, but have never used it in a production pipeline.

I hope i can teach you guys a thing or two and that you will be able to do the same for me Smiling

Ok, so below is the initial concept of the idea, i then pushed it on a bit to create the second image.  My other idea was a sort of war memorial that acted as capture the flag style/domination base. I still like that idea but i felt this one would push my texturing abilities more, by truly focusing on different materials. I will start off my creating the barrel, card board box and bucket to begin with as i want to build my scene around the radio and seating area. Then moving on to the other objects and the outpost.

Well, i have been thinking about the style i am going to go with i know that the main article says something similar to the one in eat3D's scene, so i am going to go for a Brink/warm gun approach to it.  Brink because it is a game coming out in the new year and i am a big fan  of it and love the colour scheme they have going on there and warm gun because i like there approach to modelling/texturing and the amount of detail they put into simple objects, which is what i hope to achieve.

So, the piece will be rusty using reds and oranges with metals having a slight hint of blue/green to it.  the piece will be set at winter time at night and was thinking about having some xmas lights going on or something funky like that oh and i am thinking of pushing my texturing abilities by having frost/snow on the objects.

Let me know if you got any ideas about what i said or on the concept, anything will be much appreciated!

No real work yet as i am finishing off a few bits and bobs for the weekend, so Monday will be the day i get any actual blocking in, but i have two useful links that will be helpful for this project.  My project has had a slight turn but still incorporates the concept above.

the first is kuler my adobe it takes awhile to upload but it allows you to create your own colour board or have a look at other peoples, which is fun and interesting if you want a particular set of colours you can just refer to it.

The second is a blog post about texturing and the different maps and how to apply them to different materials which is totally cool and i have learnt a lot from just skimming it at the moment.

Hope you enjoy these two links Smiling

I am still here, wow the progress you all are making is great!  I have just finished a contract so i am in unemployment road Sad but that does mean i have more time to work on a scene that fits with this compo.  So the images above have been scraped and i am doing something similar but on a smaller scale would rather, use what i got now then to keep adding and adding and never get it to to udk or even texturing, so i am doing a fruit stall kinda thing using the same objects as the image before.  I think the images will sell it more than me talking all the time Smiling

I realise these are pretty more screenshots sorry and probably not much to crit on except the composition of it...
