Good start man! Small crit: The telephone pole should be much taller. It looks like you could touch the transformer if you were on the roof of that building. They're usually pretty high up there.

Good luck, man!

change the lamp on the wall. it doesnt really fit in the scene.

You're right, Rico. I was more focused on getting it in the shot than having correct proportions (which isn't exactly a good thing Sticking out tongue) I'm contemplating on using a concrete street lamp, though I'm worried that might overpower the amount of wood material in the scene.

Rooster, yeah, I definitely agree. I've swapped it out with a simple plastic light, I still need to do more experimenting with different light types.

I really like the destroyed concrete in the Next-Gen Texturing DVD so I'm trying to incorporate a similar concept. The wall with the door looks a bit empty so my plan is to add some piping or wiring to it.

I'm trying to make the scene smaller and not so spread out but I feel like I'm limiting my self when I try and keep all aspects of the scene as realistic as possible. Would it be a better idea to do something that has more visual interest, even if it seems like something would never be that way in reality?

For instance, the Next-Gen Texturing scene has chain link and wooden fencing being embedded into a large, concrete, slab. It looks awesome but would we ever see that outside of a game?

Maybe I'm being too analytical...

I definitely get a better feel from the first one. Maybe throw a small generator out back. http://kidsonroll.com/admin/images/generator_jd3500p_1.jpg

I did a similar prop to your utility pole a while back...maybe it will help give you some ideas?

Not exactly happy with it but I don't want to spend much more time on the wall.

im not sure , but this wall pieces are major parts of your scene . I suggest to take a little bit more time on that sculpt . Main problem is that they have too many straight line edges .

I'm not finished with it just yet, I do want to move on to other pieces of the scene within the next few days though. If needed, I'll return to the wall and tweak where necessary.

Sculpt update along with some lighting blockout. I'm trying to get a nice combination of cool and warm colors without one being overpowered by the other.

great work so far bunglo! I really light the lighting blockout and the overall composition.

i agree with shyamsagars concerning the sculpting of the wall, it looks good so far but a little bit too soft/muddy.

i think that imagebasedsculpting technique you can use in zbrush would help and provide a pretty quick result.

Sorry for the infrequent updates, other things have been getting in the way of the competition. Just a few more things to sculpt and I'll move onto the lowpoly. These screens show the heavily optimized versions of the highpolies I'll use for baking.

@schiefer: Thanks, I'm using mudbox but hopefully I'll be using Zbrush by the end of the comp Sticking out tongue I tried to get rid of the muddy look, I think it'll look fine once the textures are on there.

@hunter: Yeah, the chainlink fence was a bit of a pain but that was my fault for going about it in a dumb way.

Thank you, arkadius.

Basically done with the highres portions of the scene, other than the electrical pole. Granted they've all been heavily optimized for smooth performance in max, the un-optimized versions will be used for baking.

I'm going to be gone for a week because of Christmas (22nd-29th), so it looks like I'll have one week to finish the scene.

I still need to delete the excess rebar in case anyone was wondering.

Back from my Christmas trip. Just a few more things to unwrap than I can start on texturing.

Here's a bake test of the large wall chunk.

I've tried my hardest to finish this piece before the deadline but it's looking like it will be impossible to get the results I want with such little time left. That missed week of work on this would have done wonders.

Congrats to those who finish and good luck!
