Hello ladies and gentlemen,
this is my first post in these forums and my first entry to a cg challenge. I really like what I've seen here so far - great competition, great inspiration. So without further ramblings here's my aquatic monster... alien... whatever. Right now I have to think of some background story for him... her? Smiling

Note:
I got a little distracted while writing my initial post. This piece of work is not the final entry. It's a work in progress image (more of a concept right now). Thus the WIP in the title of the threat. Thx.

Some reference photos and a piece made by Damir G. Martin as inspiration and guides to help me along the way (call it a moodboard if you like):

Thx schiefer, your goblin looks great as well. Smiling
Small update. Still not sure where to go with the nose - I 'll probably go for a look closer to the original concept. Next step will be to bring in the eyeballs and teeth to further define the character of this beast.

mh, the nose looks a little bit too human in the second one i think - i personally would prefer it to be more like a reptile

and yes i hope to see loads of scales ,too Eye-wink

A few more iterations. The nose has been "de-humanified". Teeth have been added as well as the eyes. Now it's time to bring in the first scales and tweak the teeth some more.

Glad you like it, nerf3601. Here's an update on my progress. Had quite some trouble opening its mouth because initially I did not plan for that. Anyway some retopo in 3dcoat and a mask in zbrush covering the insides of the mouth allowed me to pull of this stunt without too many projection errors.
So here you go...

open mouth suits him very well i think, prefer the second version with that plate on the forehead so far

@nerf3601: the dolphin was in my head at the time I did the first strokes of my concept. But it somehow vanished during the process.
But maybe that's a nice idea for future monsters to keep in mind.

@schiefer: yes I prefer that one, too. Currently working on tongue, teeth and scales. The next update is scheduled for Monday (weekend, yay).

Small update. Not much progress due to holidays etc.
Won't be able to texture the beast. Challenge is ending very soon.
