yo dude that head gear looks really promising! I luuuuuv dragons so by default thats going to be my fav part Sticking out tongue

and thanks for the comment, the developmental prossess of my bat thingy and betrayer are kinda prevelant cause well its still a learning process for me. Im still new to the 3D world and just trying the best I can, but its a blast specially with sooooo many other skilled artists. reminds me of backs in my school days when I had a lot of artistic friends.

oh as for crits, I was wondering ( though I just chalked it up to stylization) how come your chicks eyes are so far apart?

hey grungenie very nice start dude!

i like the childish look of her face , maybe the nose/forehead situation could use little more dynamic when seen from the side

but its cool anyway Eye-wink

thanks a pile folks...... ur crits are so relevant..... thing is this model is just off the first sketch and has room for loads of evolution..... i plan to upload a more detailed concept sheet soon ( there is a stringent lack of time, heh..) .......i hope that should explain a lot about her features....

meanwhile there has been some advance on the development of the basic idea and i am attaching another image..... looking forward to ur crits and suggestions as always........

I would so rock that hat dude .. be like dont mess wit me or ima summon a dragon!

I kinda agree on that profile .. at least as far as the face in concerned. though like I said before that head gear .. oooweee! that sure has a very sweet profile.

btw how did you get that hard surface look .. its sexy

hey nerf3601 .......  thank u so much buddy ..... i too feel the design seems to be working out but it sure has a long way to go ...... i plan to work-out a concept sheet over the week-end as i wont have access to pc during this time ....... right now i want to consolidate the story-element behind this character ......that should help unify this piece more in terms of details ........ and i'll really pay special attention to the dragon-bit as right now all of it pulled out of one single geo ..... there will be more scope for definition once separate subtools have been created ......... and thanks again for ur appreciation but that hard surface is really kind of muddy in many places ..... all this will be resolved after a retopo .....

grungenie's picture
Posts: 53

well.... as time permits....... i have been able to go some distance on the Summoner head....... i wanted to post a detailed concept-sheet first but that has not been possible....... instead, i could find time to go for retopologizing the head and the helmet so that these could be given due treatment as separate subtools....... i'll post the aforesaid concept sheet soon......  until then, this is the latest progress.......

its been quite a while since i posted my last update........ there was some time-crunch and also some problems with resources.....  i could find some time to come up with some concept work...... here is some background information about the Summoner and the Cult universe she belongs to........ i needed to develop this story part in order to arrive at a basis for building this head( character.....) ......... i preferred to think of this piece as a sample presentation of a character for a Game or a Film..... it is just that the requirement here is only for the head part .......I look forward to your criticisms and valuable suggestion ...... here is a view establishing the look and feel of the Suaros universe.....

here is a representation of the Summoner in the act of communicating to the Guardian Spirits of the Cult inside the Temple...... i know these images could be much better but for now i have to be satisfied with this as there are some constrains on the resources and time is also running out fast.   So, now i am going to devote all my available time and resources to finishing the sculpt and paint part of the exercise .........i look forward to your crits and suggestions.....

dude you put so much though and effort into the background of this head man CONGRATS! .. it kinda makes me feal like making something for this universe myself Laughing out loud

maybe after the contest is over you want to work on a scene or something.. " you know with heads that have bodies to them!" Sticking out tongue

Let me know bro .. but I'm liking the feal of the whole thing you got going on

thank u so much buddy ! its always great to have crits and suggestions and you have been a constant.... that's really great.....

well working together on a project should be real fun and something to look forward to ...... yes .. this challenge has been quite a Christmas Gift of sorts for me !!!!! Long live Santa.....  you know it was just an accidental thing to join this challenge but, after going some distance with the initial sketch in Zbrush and upto retopology, i had begun to miss out on the core stuff that could drive this baby further down the line...... so i decided to go back to the drawing board, brainstorm and come up with some supporting background story and context for the elements i wanted to include...... it was very interesting but as daunting too. I know what i have been able to come up with is not quite the thing that it could be but given my constraints it is not possible to spend more tie on this pass..... and the head is anyway open to minor changes along the way as long as it does not change the original premises........ so, now i am not bothered about what the final outcome is going to be ... i just want to utilize this opportunity to develop and explore my skills as much as possible ..... it is a reward in itself.....this is what i mean by a Christmas gift !!! .. and i really want to thank Eat3d for this fantastic idea wherein so much can be explored within such a small work-frame and time-frame !!!       fine.... i did lots of blah-blah.... going to post some updates on the sculpt too....

here are some options a weighed for her facial features...........

faceoptions_01.jpg
grungenie's picture
Posts: 53

but the initial options looked close to human and i wanted to move it away from human look.... something that belonged better in the Saurok scheme ......... so i preferred the last one and am now working on the same though i may tweak it as and when the need arises.......

sweet, I love reptilian animorphes ... reminds me so much of draconians from DnD

love the coins thier soo awesome, the neck gear is really cool too but to me it looks like it might be a little bit to bizy y'know. Thiers no transition for slick smooth surfface into sweet detail like in her headgear.

OK since you said you wanted more reptilian I would suggest widening her "muzzle" area. I'm not sure if this relegion in this world is evil or not but if it is you couls think of giving he a wicked wide grin similar to the of a snake Eye-wink

And I would soo ease up on the scal detail. I know the alpha is awesome but I think more sublety with it would rock! At least in eye's,mouth and cheek area. The larger scales on the outer fringes of the face can stay heavy looking cuase well it seems all re[ptiles have that kinda look Sticking out tongue

oh the smileys are the same as typing smileys when you test Sticking out tongue = : P

here is a speed sculpt from before I got into the contest  ( yeah this contest helped me grow soooo much too as you can see Sticking out tongue )  but the only real scales I put on this gragon headed dude thingy were the plate of his forehead and snout. I hope this helps visualize what I was talking about bro

maybe now that I know how to retopo I prolly should do it on this dude Sticking out tongue

okay, here is my new post ..... in my last post i had presented some ideas for the facial features of the Summoner...... i was not quite satisfied with the result though ..... i finally changed her features to bring it closer to the lizard community she is part of ...... it seems to make more sense now ...... please let me know whether it really does...? i have also reworked the scale-details .... i look forward to your crits and suggestions..... thanks

Wow nicely done!

Pretty sweet sculpt full of details. Must have been quite hard to do the retopo on the dragon helmet!

Really cant wait to see with the polypaint!

Cheers

egads my man I LIKE this swift change in direction, she looks like she needs to be feared/respected. and now with the overly large snake type mouth she can yell the saurian gospel to the masses that much more louder Sticking out tongue

BTW have you seen my omage to your saurian type priestly background thingy? Sticking out tongue make me have to step my game up .. sheesh Laughing out loud

thanks a lot maikeelassi ! it has been an effort not due to the amount of work but due to unavailability of a computer where i can finish this work.....but it looks like i'll be able to shore it up......

thanks nerf .... yes i could happen upon a better direction for her facial features and right now it seems to be working.... lets see where it gets......

i am uploading a WIP color pass ......  hope to submit the final entry tomorrow......it will be great to have your crits and suggestins as always...... thanks .....

Hey Grungenie!

Nice colors!

For your rendering issues you might also want to play with the ambient, diffuse and High dynamic cursors in the material palette under modifiers! Boosting up the values will greatly improve your renders and of course playing around with the lighting as illustrated by Schiefer on his thread!

Hope that helps!

Cheers
