Zbrush is such an amazing program. Just finished the comprehensive video and have learned so much. Started from a cube like in the video and just had fun sculpting away while learning. My first sculpted anything in Zbrush and it is so nice being able to work like an artist not an engineer. Not real happy with the forward limbs going into the middle of the eyes, might move to the tear ducts or something. Advice and comments please, can't get better without them.

Thanks,

Ian Bonar

Hey Bones, Great start. As far as suggestions, Consider creating a dramatic expression for your character that reflects the feelings he is going through (in this case probably pain and fear), and create a more dynamic creature pose that suggests more tension. A good way to establish this pose might be to look in a mirror and act it out with your hand  as the creature. By taking some pics to reference while sculpting,  you will see the characters expression, folds that occur on the skin from the pressure being applyed by the arms (your fingers) and see where the tension should be in the limbs and how they should be positioned for balance.

Good luck!!

Good idea. What do you think if this is a creature that is a more permanent mind controlling parasite. Would it still be super tense now that it has control?

Thanks for the comments, always welcome.

Im very new to Zbrush too and I sooo share your sentiments. Zbrush rules high above all else! Sticking out tongue

okay for a perminent mind controlling parasite I dunno make the limbs by the eyes look like they're prying the eyes open and give the dude some slackjaw zombie'ish features?

Even if it is permanent mind controlling parasite, the expression and posing should indicate that relationship, and will add a lot to the dynamics of the sculpt. like Nerf3601 mentioned with the hanging zombie'ish features.

hey I just had an idea! What if he had like a scorpian stinger thing that went into the base of his neck and like fused with the spinal cord?

I know I know, its a spidery parasite but like I said it was just an idea XP

It actually is connected to the base of the neck. Will post some rear shots. I like your thinking (apparently.) Thanks for the feedback.

I love feedback, thanks. After looking at something for a long time, an outside perspective really helps. Thanks guys.

Great job!  I think yours showed me that my idea is perhaps too tame and doesn't give me much to work with.  I guess it goes to show in any medium the ideation process is key.  Keep up the good work!

Thanks jabessette. I initially was going to make some sort of black widow shaped helmet, and look where it lead me. Good fun.

Well, finally got some time to work on my head. Fleshed him out a little more and put some more detail into the parasite. Let me know what you think.

Another kind of expression you might consider (apart from fear and pain which have already been suggested):
- idiocy due to his lost control over his facial muscles
- some zombified staring combined with a drooling mouth

Did some polypainting on my guy, pretty cool workflow with the materials and colors being able to be painted on the fly.

yo bones, diggin the sculpt a lot.  Made a quick paintover in photoshop for ya to hopefully help iron out some minor things I noticed.  It's a lot easier for me to draw the crit than type it Smiling

Hope it helps dude! Lookin great so far!

Not sure what happened on my YouTube upload, the turntable looks really compressed and has a lot of artifacts. Looks great on the initial output. Will try to re-upload again if that is legal for the challenge.

Thanks, was really fun project to work on. I can't believe you can go from a cube to a finished model so efficiently using such a great program.

You know, this is my first challenge and I have to say it was really fun. It gets you to really start using what you have learned into practical use and I say that is a good thing. There is some really amazing work people did on this challenge and I would like to congratulate everyone that finished.

Bones my bruthah do you think you can get one of those parasites to suck out shiefers brain and teach us what he know!! Sticking out tongue

I love the way this zombie parasire breakdanger came out bro :D  and the slightly sloped lip is just the most perfect thing ever! now all you need is to have him animated raping about eating brains to a track with a good baseline

How about:

When I eat the brains

No more hunger pangs

bump,          bump, bump

Cerebral tasty candy

Zbrush tasty fancy

bump,          bump, bump

Paint your model right

Keep the UV's tight

bump,          bump, bump

Gonna need some work to get that one on Death Row Records!
