Interesting challenges! Do we have to compete in both chalenges or can we chose just one? For the head challenge: must we sculpt an identical head to the one in the Zbrush DVD?

Each prize is independent so you can just enter 1 or both, or both multiple times if you want. Also the head must be unique. Smiling

Hi, great idea for a challenge Smiling Can I ask when you say create a head like the one in the DVD, do we have to create something creepy, or is it open to anything like busts, people, creatures, etc? Thanks and looking forward to this.

multiple sculpting packages all okay?

Ex.: I want to block-in my model in 3d-coat, but will most likely
detail in Z4...not sure where I'll texture yet.

Swapping back and forth will not be 'illegal' for the contest, will it?

Thanks!

There are no restrictions on which program you use. The final must come from the sculpting application you choose and not rendered from another program though.

This is a pretty awesome comp, too!

Question: Is multiple subtools ok? Or do you want everything sculpted out of one tool?

If you want to create multiple entries just make a new thread and you can also put something about what it is. Example:

Head Sculpting - Riki - Robot Head

Head Sculpting - Riki - Afro Head

etc. Sticking out tongue

Ok to include neck/shoulders for a bust-type entry?  Or does it have to be the head only?

I guess we can allow this but please do not go below the shoulders. The focus of the judging will be on the head.

Yes you can use subtools and no you dont have to do any video capturing.

So no rendering in maya or 3ds max .All renders must be done through zBrush .Does it have to be low poly or just the sculpt and materials .

yeah great comp, but i have one important question. is it possible to take photo reference textures and paint them on the head via polypainting, like skin or hair or something like that.

hey ! this challenge sounds awesome !

one question though, for the  final render is it ok to have multiple renders from Zbrsuh for example and composite them in PS?

Cheers!

No unfortunately. With the power of compositing in photoshop it just opens up too many loopholes. The final should be directly from the sculpting app.

There is no way we could tell if you did that or not so I dont want to restrict it. We are trying to focus the restrictions on things we can enforce. So yeah you can do that for your base-mesh.

This Challenge is awesome!!!!

I have one question tho,

(All entrys must be 100% original and created especially for this challenge. No kit bashing or reusing old assets/base meshes is permitted.)- Does that mean we HAVE TO  concept the head that we are going to sculpt?? EX: Can i use one of my friend's 2d concept as my reference and model it and sculpt it out? the image has never been modeled or sculpted before, does it count like original created for this challenge??  or can we sculpt from like a celebrity's head photo or use one of the Japanese anime character for my refs and sculpt it out ??

Thanks and have a good one

Only the sculpt has to be original and you can use reference as long as your cite the source and get permission to use it.

Using a concept should be fine as its the same as using photo ref./mood board imho Smiling

To enter you must create a new thread in the Contests and Challenges forum and title your thread with the challenge name followed by your user name e.g. Head Sculpting - metalliandy Smiling

Hope that helps

I cant seem to locate the "start new thread button" thingy and Im fealling like a complete moron XP

I only just recently started being serious on learning 3D art and this seems the perfect opportunity to find where I stand and want to enter it. I have a finished head already "mostly finished" and am dying to post it up =D

But with the level of skill all you guys have here you dont make it easy for a newb! This feals way more like a developmental process. Id just like to thank all you guys for making my inevitable but wooping so fun and enjoyable! Laughing out loud

Yes that is correct. You can post it after but it wont go into judging. You must have a final image and video turnaround on the first post of your thread.

Hi Riki, this may sound silly but i just need to understand  whether 11:59PM on the 2nd of January means the same in the USA as in India .....if the counter at the top of this thread reads Competition Deadline | Only 2 days, 12 hours, 20 minutes and 33 seconds left

should it mean 60 hours 20 minutes and 33 seconds from now....? i am asking this because i may not get an access to my computer on Saturday so if i get to finish my last bit on Sunday by 05:00 pm will i still be in the league? I sincerely apologize for this bother but its just that when the show was hotting up i have had to cope with increasing inavailability of my computer as i only get to work in the spare time in the office and i may most likely get permission to use this machine on either Saturday or Sunday.... thanks and a very happy new year to you, the entire Eat3d team and all the participants in the two challanges.

hmm, yes 2 days, 12 hours, 20 minutes and 33 seconds and 60 hours 20 minutes and 33 seconds are the same thing. We are here -6 GMT, what is it in India (+5 GMT or so?) I think in India you have until late Monday Smiling
