Ok guys.  I've been talking to Riki to break the news but figured we should share.  Yes this is a FULLY FUNCTIONAL version of the Unreal Editor!!!  This is the same as what the licensees work with right now.  We plan on updating regularly too, so please keep an eye out for any bugs, or wonky problems you come across and let me know. There are a TON of new features which are explained on the website.  One of the biggest new features is our Lightmass GI system.  Light your whole scene with ONE dominant directional light!!  Its truly amazing.  The UDK as well comes with SpeedTree 5.0.  This is a brand new version that has just been released and has some AMAZING features as well!!!  Check out youtube for some videos of it.  Now anyone can create mods without the hassle of having to have Unreal Tournament 3 installed on your computer.  UDK is a completely standalone program.  There are also 2 example games on www.udk.com         The Ball  and Whizzle.  These are just a couple of examples of what you can do with UDK.  Possibilities are endless as you know, and if you and a group want to release a full fledge game for people to buy there are ways of doing that as well.  Just check the licensing page on the website.  Hopefully everyone will enjoy this truly groundbreaking release!!!!

This isn't just a free version, but an almost NEW version from what people are using from the UT3 editor.  There are literally dozens and dozens of MAJOR upgrades to the engine since then!  ;)  Just wait till you start playing around with all of the new features!!  We have put a lot of work into this baby, hehe...

Man...what can i say...

Its fast guys...i mean super fast and seems mega scalable too.

In UE3 i used to have some lag when i moved objects around or cloned lights but that is all gone.

Its super smooth navigation wise and the new interface is really intuitive and moving around the world is like sliding on butter

I saved a package with 4x 2k textures, 1 Mat and a mesh in 30 seconds...whats cooler is that they all had defer compression on when i imported them into the editor.

It even opens UT3 saved packages.

I cant stress how impressed i am guys... you all really need to check this out...super serious ^^

This is amazing! A new interface with a clean layout, amazing speed and smoothness. Like metalliandy said, I was still expecting the lag in some of the areas when cloning or moving certain objects through the scene, but its all gone!! It is super fast when importing meshes and textures. I will continue to use it and try out all of the tools and options.

Its like getting a free Saleen for Christmas and finding out it comes with free gas for life!! :SDLKFJDKLFJ!!!!!! I am seriously stoked!

Big props to Tim Sweeney and the dev crew at Epic.

But if you think about it... make an outrageous game engine, make it usable, give it to everyone for free... It becomes and industry STANDARD... I think someone has a very good business plan!!

Yea, no doubt that there's money involved ofcourse (but isn't there always?). Looking at all the mods that currently run on Valve's Source engine, it's hardly a surprise that other companies take the same route and open up their resources for the industry/community. And they also had a very similar thing for UE2 (Unreal Runtime Environment). It was allot more restricted though, but still gave you lots of the unreal 2.0 features... I'm guessing it was only a matter of time before they came with this, regardless of anything.

Really like their license agreements to btw, not a bad deal if you're a hobbyist that wants to make cool projects...

Installed it at work today works great!  I love the new content browser, so speedy finding files.   Installed it at home, works in Windows 7 64bit just fine :)   Fracture tool is amusing to make destructible objects.   Have to see how it handles importing destructible meshes too.

Cascade has been changed around a bit, feels like Xmas in November!

Just to let you guys know, 3DBUZZ is doing a video series, like they did with UT3 release, that goes over most of the new features available in UDK.  They are having to redo them, so they should be released in the next couple of weeks.  I will keep you guys posted!

Be careful which one you downlaod though as a lot of the mirrors still point to the 2009 december one, just keep clicking through them till you get a 2010 in the filename, GamersHell definately has the latest one though Smiling
