So I had a hd crash and my sci fi stuff got lost in hard drive heaven so I've decided to start something new.  The old pillar dvd gave me some inspiration to learn zbrush and start learning stone/rock/rubble sculpting.  Here are a couple noob examples.  I'd like to start on a modular rock wall next.  Any crits pls!  Eye-wink

Oh wow, that came out nice. I think you nailed the large and medium detail and would suggest trying to add the smaller details next. Right now it looks a thousand years old.

I really like the texture work you've done. but maybe it could use some more contrast in the spec map. How did you get the large and medium details to be so consistent?

someone remind me to use Zbrush more often.

Thanks for the comments guys.  So I went back and added some smaller concrete/normal details on this guy, as well as levels adjusted the spec map to be a little bit more contrasty. (Is that a word, hehe?) These guys are actually going in an old dracula style castle environment, so 1000 years old isn't too bad Laughing out loud.  I'm not sure about the steel thing though? The model isn't the prettiest to look at , but it does the job. Kaze, I wish I would have started using Zbrush years ago.  Just like everyone else, I was always intimidated of the UI and all, but its really not as bad as it looks.  ClayTubes brush and alphas FTW!!  Eye-wink

Here's the other guy.  He could be optimized more as well, but he's not too bad atm. Might get around to that sometime, hehe.  I also added some small conctrete/normal details and adjusted the levels of the spec map.  I also changed the main light position for both these guys so the spec could read a little better. Throw some rebar in these with some rust spots...or maybe some paint across some of em to show their origin.  Maybe little pieces to toss around them?

Right on, I'm actually working on a few different smaller chunk sets to throw around!  ;)  Will update when I have something worthwhile to show, hehe.

Thanks bud!  Actually, I just used some of the ones from the Pixologic website. They are in the "Rock" section.  http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/downloadcenter/alpha/ .   I went back and added some small details and color variations to the model, but we decided they will be more background pieces so holding off on any more editing. Ok, this is my last concrete rubble style piece for a little bit.  I have an idea for the Old and Damaged challenge I would like to do if I have any time permitted!  ;)  Anyways, I just wanted to get the contrast between concrete and paint on this guy.
