Hey guys, here are a few generic, modular metal textures I have been working on. They're done on flat planes for now because I wanted to see how much I could get out of just a texture. I'm really enjoying learning more about texturing, so any critique or advice is certainly welcome.

Looking pretty good Smiling

My only real crit is that the normal map for the drips on the bottom piece is a little strong.

Cant wait to see more Smiling

Thanks a lot man. I totally agree with the comment on the normal map. I was having a hard time getting the drips to look exactly how I wanted them to, especially with the spec for it. I couldn't seem to get that "wet" look. I also don't know if I should just get rid of the normal map for it all together.

there shouldnt be any bump for the leaking. It should all be a specualar change.

also, water doesn't leak all in one consistent shade. there are layers of leaks. What i would suggest would be to just make another layer wth leaks at multiply.

add rust.

Thanks for the comments guys. Here is an update on the second texture. I'm still going to go back and play with the specular for the leaks some more. I also added more rust but something feels off about it.

The main thing that makes it feel uneasy is the dark drip details are uniform in their distribution across the panels. Its almost as if there is a flat planer UV map with 1 texture being projected perfectly over them all.

Instead of having 1 large dark drip texture, you should have a unique one per panel, it would take a bit more work but look much better in the end. Smiling

I never even thought of that, but it makes so much more sense than what I'm doing now. Thanks a lot, I'll get back to working on it and will update it soon. Smiling

So here is yet another update on the same metal texture. I took Riki's advice and put unique drip details on each individual panel, and I also adjusted the rust based on a comment I recieved on Polycount. I think the texture makes a lot more sense now, but I can't decide if it is too busy or not.

atm its looking good, I like how you have kept it simple without any crazy holes or scratches, this way it could be easily duplicated around a scene without it looking like the same piece

I like how you added the rust too the edges on the post before this one, maybe add the rust here n there but not too much and your golden Smiling
