Medieval Village
Hey guys, i started this after finishing up my Treasure Chest(posted here as well) a few days ago. Anyways, this is a test in modularity, im hoping to have between 5-10 unique medieval building vartions built from the same texture set. Here are two of those buildings mirrored and rotated to give me a medieval street running realtime in UE3. Let me know what you think!

Very nice work. It looks like the beginnings of an Assassin's Creed level in its early stages. I like the texture work. I couldn't agree with Riki more. The ground could use a great deal of variation. I know you probably just slapped the texture on a plane, so don't think I am critiquing harshly. Just simply stating lol. This probably is irrelevant at the moment since you are focusing on the modeling aspects, but the lighting on the building looks a bit more like a 6:30 dusk feel. Try and match the sky to fit. Like I said, probably irrelevant at the moment. I love the different awed roofs you have and their separate heights. Great job on that.
-One of the other things I wanted to point out was the doors look a bit glossy or over saturated. If possible, try and blend them into the scene more by de-saturating them JUST A TID BIT, and possibly doing a bit of color correction. They look a bit too morune. Try a bit more of a dull grunge look so it can fit the environment conditions a bit better.
Keep up the great work buddy! Its coming right along!
Make sure to update as much as possible. I know we are all thrilled to see this progress![]()

you said the buildings were modular... would you mind showing your piece set?
I'd enjoy seeing a breakdown of your work as well. This is looking really nice.
Sure, so basically i built a texture set with variations in look and size to allow for greater flexibility when building a structure that uses them. I than took into max and created the peices in a way shown here. This creates the modularity.

Early test shot of building_01

Same building, with materials switched around and rotated, ect as shown in unreal. Need to fix the ugly roof.

As for everyone else, thank you for comments, the scene i have is purely a test level, i plan to redo everything and add props/fix street up, ect later on. Thanks for the feedback.

great job, and everything works texture wise with everything else, which i see can be hard for a lot of people out there. Is all the wood modular pieces as well.
I would like to see the geometry variation in the terrain
Bud,
How you doin man! Loving the project! Keep it up! Any new updates in the near future?![]()
hey can u tell me where i can down load UE3 i want to test my models there.....
@gamelord.sj, You need to purchase either Unreal Tournament or Gears of War. The Unreal editor comes bundled with both games. Please do not hijack threads.

Gamelord.sj,
Yeah, the best way to get a copy of the U3E is to purchase Unreal Tournament 3 or Gears of War 2. HOWEVER, I am on a 64 bit and I have tried to install gears several times but it says it is not compatible with 64 bit. I don't know if this is a simple bug or what. I have tried de-activating my security, installing custom .dll files, etc. I would recommened unreal tournament 3 anyways. Its .upk packs have a larger variety of assets.

Hey Guys,
GOW is definitely compatible with Vista 64 as i have it installed
As Jeremy said, getting UT3 would be the better option anyway as its a newer version of the engine.
Anyway lets stay on topic guys and not to derail the thread
@Gamelord.sj, if you have any more questions its best to make your own thread mate.
hey ya i would like to c more work its like inspiring one for new comers like me.........
YA n m sorry for asking qusetion here.........
Its cool game, just make a new thread for the question and we will respond![]()

Sorry for late response, ive been out of town, Unfortunately i might have to put this project on hold to do some other stuff, but i will update it when i come back to it, which might or might not be soon.
-Buddikaman
Sounds good buddy. Looking forward to the next update!

Just a heads up on some textures ive been making for my test level. I suck at lighting, but an update is an update.

VERY nice work my friend. You are making a lot of progress. I would agree that the lighting needs to be dont to really sell this scene but so far your doing a great job. I would suggest making more of a dawn or dusk scene with exterior lights to break things up.
Looking awesome mate!
My only real crit. is that the textures look a little fuzzy in the distance...See if you can turn up the Anisotropic Filtering and see if that helps
I have attached your images again via our server...feel free to use the Attach features when adding images :)
Oh yes the lighting DVD! I havent forgotten and its well into production and hopefully will be out in a month or so. We have a couple of great instructors working on it, Im pretty excited about it.

wow, this is looking great man! Looks very similar to what were were working on at Midway right when it shut down. I think the first area you should start polishing is the ground, its very plain and needs to have a lot more variation and different things going on.
Love it man, make sure to keep us updated
