Concrete Study
Last night I was thinking about doing a quick Concrete study to help me better understand the physics of concrete, what it looks like after certain impacts, etc. I went to my father who is a petrophycisist and physics major. He sat down and gave me a talk on the physics of concrete which was very eye opening into the real/3d integrated world. I had a lot of fun in discussing all the statistics and decided to make my concrete project a simple sphere with 2 forces applied to the concrete to create the damage you see below. It was created by force 1 = Small plastic explosive from the inside, and force 2 = heavy impact from the outer concrete shell. The result is the model you see. I will implement this fun study project into a production project shortly.
P.S. I took the HP model from mudbox into 3ds max and created an in-game model for UT3. Snapshots are below. (I didn't build all of the lighting) "Model is imported into UT3 Map - War-Islander-"

No problem buddy. If you have any crits, please let me know![]()
I trying to build my knowledge database.
one word to explain.
WOW!
I really like this. The main thing I would suggest is exaggerating the inner part because its not reading well as it could if you just pushed that in further, especially with lighting. I would take this in a new black scene and add a few lights around it to really push the normal and show it off. I say that because it just gets washed out in the scene.
Nice job Jeremy...interesting stuff mate
Thanks for all of the comments everyone! I will load it up in a black scene today and post a few screenies.
Thanks again!![]()

Hey Ceribral, I couldn't reach you on skype so I'll post it here.
I was looking at your concrete study and I was trying to figure out a decent workflow for creating concrete textures. I'm thinking of creating 2 different types of workflows: one from zbrush and one from photoshop. Every time I try to create a texture I get stuck and my details seem to just not work. I've been looking at the tutorials created by Philip Klevestav but I didn't really understand the last bit, but I'm trying to create my own method anyway. Got any ideas?
Since this I have come up with a ton of new methods for concrete that are a lot more efficient. I will get back to you on skype when I can (I would re-post here) but its already 2 am and I got work in 7 hours. Everything is in a vicious loop atm and the brain is a bit fried. Really sorry, but I will hit you up on skype real soon
