Arch Viz dump
I`m curently working to improve my portfolio as an arch viz. I`ll post here some of my wips+ final images aswell, just to keep them in one place.
I started today with a minimalist house, designed by "Bates Masi Architects". I wanna do full exterior and interior parts so it will take me a week or so. I`ll be posting some interior stuff i do aswell(no wips on interiors tho). Hope you like it and i hope to see some crits and coments
. And i`m attaching 2 interiors that i did in the weekend.
This is much better. Sometimes the smallest things can make all the difference. I still think the corners of the room and around the cabinates could use more ambient occlusion. In the image below, you can see the ambient occlusion gather in the corners of the room and get exceptionally darker around all objects. This really brings realism to the image. I would suggest making another AO pass or even 2. (Not set to 100% opacity of course.) But do one pass with a wider spread and one with a lower spread, then try each one on its own or blend them into each other.
Its looking great though! Keep up the hard work buddy!![]()

Worked a bit on the exterior and another interior today... but i had to make a model for school so not too much work done actualy... here is a render of the interior, not very high settings that`s why there are some splashes. i will add more objects and make 2 renders tomorrow..
No postwork! pure render. C&C would be very welcomed!
Looking good on a render stand point. The layout of the furniture and objects is a little weird (ie the TV, and a book bag)
i would try and find a nice leather normal for that sofa with a fernel in a fernel, so you get a nice highlight right as the edge rolls over.
How are you doing your grass and how long did that render take??
Hey jet! Thanks for the comment. The furniture was layed out like in the pic that was my refrence. I thought about a leather look but i sticked to this one, thanks.
For the grass... i used the same tehnique as this tutorial: http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/2009/03/vray-grass-tutorial-part-1/ Render took one hour and a half.
Idk what it is but im not too fond with the exterior lighting. Might just be me. Anyways, the rug in the last picture looks way to perfect for me, I would think of adding some rough edges to it.
I'd love to live there regardless
Hey thanks Razor. I can see too that there is something wrong with the lighting there...
Started on a new building, here i have plans and more refrences, so i can do a better job at the building itself. It`s a bit more complicated that the first one so bare with me. Next update will be more complex. Hope you like it, C&C are welcomed!
HDRI is only for display purpose
Some nice stuff here. Cant really comment on WIP's as I would probably be telling you what you already know / have been told.
Im currently working on a project to try and port as many arch viz techniques and level of polish into real time games.
Was wondering what software you use to build your models, I will be building my stuff in 3dsmax but would be nice to know what arch viz people use in industry as my work is also a research dissertation.
I made some arch viz (was actually a study of lighting but meh)
I only used mental ray however - would you say V-Ray is standard for arch viz?
Hey m8! Thanks for the reply, i`m glad you like my work.
When i`m doing archviz, i`m already using plans that clients suply (.dwg mostly) and i`m using 3dsmax for modeling since i had a lot of practice in it. Your render is rather good but you need to increse your samples in your FG(if you are using mr, as you said), and also important... the walls have thickness so don`t forget to add it when using windows(25-40 cm). Also i fell that your celing is a bit too low in comparison with the desk and chair(proportions are very important in archviz).
No, i`m not saying that vray is standard archviz render engine.. everyone uses that one that he/she knows best. I`ve seen exeptional works with vray, mental ray, maxwell, and so on. The best sofware for you is the one you know best :)
You do raise a good point about ceiling height, not noticed that before, its a room for midgets. And I know the window is flatter than a pancake
The blotchyness is due to me having to dial back settings. I am an impatient man, the above render took 15 minutes and stopped me from doing anything useful on my PC whilst it rendered. So I left it at the above.
Do you know of anywhere that offers free dwg files?
Tip/trick with arch viz is have your camera @ or around 6 ft. It helps sell the realism.
Head height, makes sense.
Don't have to worry about that with a games engine as the player height will already be around 6 foot. So I just need to model to scale
Loving the way this looks.
One of the things I would change is the reflections on the glass. The specularity seems a bit off on the upstairs window. The reflections are a bit visible on the downstairs windows, but I think boosting the power a little bit would better sell its realism and relativity in the 3d environment. Also, putting some a few larger designs to help break up that white paneling would be nice. Looking a bit bland. I like everything in the interior except the counter. It looks like it is made of a fence section. (It still looks nice though)
Another suggestion would be to add a nice larger picture on the wall above or beside the couch on the back wall to help add some nice complimentary colors.
Hope this helped.

Excellent renders. If only I could get my company to do something more than metal buildings.
how u do that it's truly fantastic.
Thank you fellas!
Sorry for not posting in a while... But here are some images I manage to finish in the mean while:

Update! btw... can someone remove second post... i did it by accident...
Detailed the house a bit... and put some foliage (about 75% or less...). Hope you like it. And i also added an OC pass to the second interior i did in the weekend(thanks Jeremy for the tip!)
Hope i can get some C&C!
