Hey everyone, I'm fairly new to 3D modeling been at it for give or take 6 months as I said in my college post I'v been teaching myself how to use max and Zbrush purely because the college I am at, at the moment havent upgraded to the autodesk suite just yet (after some complaints and banding the kids from the class together they have finally decided to listen to us) so max mudbox and maya in the not so distant future. Other then that I'm in a bit of a "pickle" I'v done the 3ds max 101 dvd while also working on the ATMT dvd from 3D-Palace, I want to invest into another 2 dvds over the next two months and just cant figure out which dvd would benefit me more. I know almost nothing about texturing so I thought the nexgt gen texturing dvd would be great but at the same time for my college project I need to create a humanoid character (I really struggle with organic modeling, even in zbrush). So its between the texturing dvd and the character design dvd, would be great to get some advice from everyone.

Regards

TW

I personally would get what ever DVD(s) would be the most useful in the long run. The majority of artist out there (I haven't seen any positions that don't require this actually) need to be able to texture their models if they want to get hired. The 'Next-Gen Texturing Techniques' DVD is an incredible resource that can get you into the next-gen texturing pipeline beautifully. You'll be able to apply what you learn just about everywhere in your textures, regardless of the project.

If you were years into creating game art and all you ever focused on was characters, I'd say the character DVD would probably be a good choice (though I don't personally own it, every Eat3d DVD I have (6 at the moment) has been worth every penny.) However, since it seems like the only reason you're considering the DVD is because of a school assignment, the Next-Gen Texturing DVD may be the better choice for your art all around.

Thanks Bunglo. We have very little to no information on the actual workings of the games industry at the moment so knowing that texturing is an integral part of finding employment is a huge help.
