PolyCrunch Alternatives

Hello Everyone,

I'm wondering if there are any good free alternatives to the PolyCrunch plugin in 3DMax. I tried the trial and it was brilliant but it quickly ran out and I'm now looking for alternatives.

I tried Meshlab but it always messes up the normals by making each face hard and smoothing only takes me so far.

I tried the built in MultiRes but it also hardens the normals severely.

I use 3DMax 2009 and Mudbox 2011

Thanks in advance

Are you able to upgrade to 3ds Max 2011?

Why? Does it have something I can use?

They have an updated version of ProOptimizer included for free. Which is polycruncher. I cant remember if 2009 has it, but if it does its an older version and may not be. Check your modifiers for ProOptimizer.

3DSMax 2009 does not have it. I'll update over the next few days and give it a spin.

I tried everything from meshlab to native 3DSMax modifiers and even a software I've written. They all severely shattered the normals of the model. Only Polycrunch 9.0 did not affect the normals that way.
