New DVD Release! Portrait Production - Creating a Realistic Portrait in Maya

More information on the product page here: http://eat3d.com/maya_portraits
In this DVD, Instructor Tony Reynolds takes you through the process of creating and rendering out a portrait using Mental Ray in Maya 2011. Tony starts off by taking a previously sculpted head from ZBrush and shows you how to prepare and export the model for Maya. From there he goes into great detail on all the Maya setup and settings, lighting with Mental Ray, simple and advanced skin shader setup, skin textures, rendering eyes, rendering teeth, rendering a tongue, creating hair for the face and head, using render layers, and compositing the render layers in Photoshop.
About the Instructor:
Tony Reynolds has been training in the visual arts from a young age, and started his video game career in 2005. He has worked at Electronic Arts and Sony Online Entertainment, Austin, where he is currently the Lead Senior Character and Technical Artist.

Well done.. cheers! But...
How an artist today with so many platforms and render systems
will learn from this dvd?
At least max users can generate sss maps following the eat 3D tutorial in
Autodesk 3ds Max 2011 - CAT, Slate, Viewport Canvas, Rendering, and More
but not quiet so stunning like in this one.
Tnx Eat 3D for so much help, and wishes to find soon tutorials
showing Maya-Mray and Max-Vray alternatives as well.
Thanks a lot!

got the tutorial yesterday and i gotta say this guy should teach classes at the jc. the step by step way he goes into every node and detail of what hes doing is amazing! i have gotten dvd tutorials before and the modeler/texture guy goes so fast and sometimes use secret downloads and scripts (that they don't even provide)! but mr Reynolds here sticks to the 3 programs from start to finish and every node is cooked up in maya with no outside tricks! so from start to finish we get the whole project and look of what you see here! the only draw back i can see is now that we know there is an artist of this caliber who can teach in a way you can actually follow along, we might have to raise the bar for following tutorials (not on this site of course!) i only ask for more and soon from this guy, maybe a robo-mech bust or military uniform, more clothes and textures of materials because you have smashed the skin texture tutorial! i really hope the market is strong for more maya tutorials of this level!

I'd like to see more Maya dvds. There is enough 3ds Max stuff out there, and I and a lot of people don't use max.
